Argus Leader: Kindness pays off: South Dakota No. 1 for small business
South Dakota ranks on top again.
For the seventh straight year, the state is ranked No. 1 for friendliness toward small businesses, according to the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council.
Two other recent national rankings also put the state among the best for business environments and strong economic policies. One study by the Institute for Truth in Accounting dubbed South Dakota as a “Sunshine State” for having one of the nation’s softest taxpayer burdens at $300 per capita.
Slater Barr, president of the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, said the rankings present a third party endorsement that adds credibility to what other state and city officials are telling potential business owners.
“We’re paid to say that we’re passionate about the community, and those third party accolades verify what they’re hearing from the local people,” he said. “I think it adds to our story.”
